What Exactly Are Dofollow And Nofollow? What exactly are dofollow and nofollow? Every day there are many newbies who don’t know what they are and asking around on the Internet, that is very OK. Because I have been through the newbies’ time. :)

Well, if you still don’t know what are the dofollow and nofollow, this article is just for you. Because right now I am going to explain what are the dofollow and nofollow.

First, what is nofollow?

Nofollow is a HTML attribute attached to hyperlinks in order to ensure that the  specific link in question does not pass any value that will help improve the target site’s search engine rank.

What Exactly Are Dofollow And Nofollow?

I know you all are very smart, so you might know what does dofollow mean. Yes, dofollow is just on nofollow’s opposite, which means the search engines will follow the links.

You may ask why this happened?

Well, as I know, before the year 2005, there was only dofollow, which means that search engines will follow every links on your websites. In that old days, it is very easy to get backlinks for your websites, one of the most easiest and powerful way is to leave comments on blogs. And I think that this must cause very serious keyword spam in that days.

This seriously effected the searching impartiality. So in the year 2005, in order to fight against the keyword spamming and SEO cheating, dofollow’s brother the nofollow was first created by the search engines’ leader – Google. And the other search engines like bing and Yahoo etc also respect the nofollow attribute as well.

And since then, most of blogs has became nofollow blogs, like Wordpress blogs, Blogger blogs etc. So it won’t be that easy to gain backlinks right now.

And I heard that this caused many people discontented about nofollow, because the nofollow tag hasn’t decreased the keyword spamming acting since it was created. Many Internet marketers think that dofollow is right, nofollow is suck. I guess they still miss the dofollow’s time any way :) .

When you said most of blogs has became nofollow blogs, like Wordpress blogs, Blogger blogs etc. Do you set your blog to “dofollow”?
